Open Letter to my Father's Brothers

Dear Uncles,

Yes, Grandpa died. I miss him horribly and am sorry that my youngest son never got to meet him when their birthdays are only days apart. I'm sorry that none of my kids will ever remember my grandpa like I remember yours. There are so many memories that I have that I cherish and always will. I know you miss him, I miss him too.

Grandpa didn't die under the best circumstances, and didn't have the opportunity to clear all the cobwebs on his affairs or his estate. It has been a messy and very crappy last couple years. I know, I was there. When you all whined and said you couldn't take off work or afford to travel, my dad did it even when he couldn't. When you didn't want to deal with your step-mom cause she tends to be mean, who did? My dad. When you didn't know what to do with the house you ignored all emails and requests for your input and so we did what we thought was best.

Again, i know cause i was there. I was there when my dad was so upset he was crying because his dad's brothers and sisters have been turned against him by his step-mom. I was there when he tried to show the whole family that you brothers still loved the family and wanted to be a part of it (though you never try). I was there to feel that the woman I've known and loved my whole life as "grandma" hated me and was telling everyone that I was trying to kill her and steal all her money. I was there to be yelled at by Grandma for trying to do what none of you were willing to do. I was there to do the right thing cause someone had to.

I, 20+ years your junior, was willing to take off time from work and work my butt off to go through your fathers stuff to try and sell it so you could have a bigger inheritance. I, not expecting to be reimbursed for time, left my family and the preparation of my house for winter to go up to increase the check going into your pockets. My boys missed me every weekend for months because I was doing the work you wouldn't do (not to mention during the week cause I had to work my real job and go to school). My house never got winterized because I was helping my dad make you more money. And now you won't even say "thank you"?????

We gave you an list of things that he needs to be reimbursed for and you tell him no, because he didn't get your approval before buying anything? You don't know but I was copied on all the emails that he sent to you asking for your input and help that you ignored. You don't know that he consulted with me because you wouldn't call him back. You don't know all the stress you caused him because he was afraid of leaving you out or doing something you might not like, but you would not do him the courtesy to reply or return a call. And now you tell him he should have asked you first?

You won't reimburse him for the things (15k - less than 4k from each inheritance check) he had to put on his credit card cause you wouldn't help? You won't for the things to fix up the house, food for the 5 min breaks we took to scarf something down before continuing on and have the gall to tell us you won't pay for food and demand we take another hour out of our time sheet for lunches? He worked days from dawn 'til dusk cause he only had a few days off of work (not including travel time from another state). I can't even tell you how many days I took off work (more than 10) and yet I know my dad took off so much more. He was here for a 2 week period straight, sleeping on the floor at the house (again to save "the trust" money) only when he couldn't see anymore or physically keep his eyes awake. You tell him congratulations for making the house sell-able and get a decent price out of it only to infer that he only did it to increase his share.

Where are the uncles I loved? Where is the family that he so desperately needs? I used to look up to you and I only find that as I get older I see who you really are and now the only way to see you is as I hang my head in shame that you would treat my father this way. I don't expect to be reimbursed for my time (that I sacrificed for you - I guess only for him cause you don't care) but I would love to treated like the pain and sacrifice we went through meant something. That you at least appreciate the hard work.

If i would have known that this was how it was going to end up I wouldn't have let or helped my dad stress over every little detail and how you would take it. I wouldn't have left my family and wasted my weekend to drive over 2000 miles to look into the AZ affairs for you (again cause your time is too valuable). I would have told dad to let the house sit empty and crappy and junked and not sell for even half of what it did. I would have told him to save his health, his back, his money, his vacation time at work, his frequent flier miles, and all his sweat and tears. I would have loved to have my dad use his vacation time to get to know his grandsons and spend time with them, or with his wife that I don't know how they even still know each other cause he was gone so long working for you.

Brothers #3 and 5 - I know you live out of state but your drive is less than half of my dad's. I know you are having money problems but hey, who isn't. We spent a few hours with you on our crappy road trip weekend and you had only thanks to say and seemed grateful for what we were doing but now you treat us like we are a being selfish. You accuse me of lying to get money out of the trust? You think that I care about the money? I care about the money I took from my family and my hard work to help you out and only expect that small amount reimbursed. I don't any of grandpa's money cause he was more than that to me.

'Brother #4', when you couldn't handle the executor duties or put up with the drama (to the point of changing your phone #s) you threw your hands up and ran to my dad for help and he stepped up to the plate at your request. Now you are telling everyone my dad did this on his own accord and you didn't ask him to? How do you sleep at night? How have you convinced yourself that is ok? You of all people saw the most of what we went through and again your time was too valuable to help but now you think that we should have included you more? Every time that my dad was in town he notified you and everytime you were too busy or something to come help. When you wanted grandpa's car (like a few of you did), my dad was a little firm with you cause he had to be fair to everyone else but you underhandedly said you paid for the car and then took "your portion" back out of the bank account causing a check to bounce and blamed it on my dad. You were the uncle I thought the most of until this. I'm sorry but I can't look up to you anymore. I don't even think that I can stand the site of you for a while.

Brother #2 - there isn't enough time in the world to discuss you, or money in the universe to make me like you.

Brother #6 - thanks for the times you helped. you know more of what my dad went through and the suffering that he is feeling. Please don't fall for the other 4's antics and their BS. Stand up for my dad and show you have a backbone.

I'm sorry that your family is a bunch of money hungry, back-stabbing idiots. They will never understand what we (you, mom, me, my wife, my sons, our friends, etc...) sacrificed to help them. Sadly its apparent, they can't see past their own greedy little noses. I hope that this all works out but please stick to your guns. Don't take this hit just to "save relationships", they obviously don't care and so I don't think that anything you do will make a difference. I enjoyed being there and feeling grandpa's spirit as we worked. It made me miss him but helped me to understand him more too. I feel as though he was there working with us many times and that he is thankful for what we did. I love you.

Anyways,

I saw this article and was shocked. Everything that Obama has said regarding his becoming president was the economy was number one. Then i see this article about him reversing the law to allow federal funds to support abortion.

Wow, i guess that we didn't have enough to worry about with federal funds that one of his first acts is to promise more money... glad to know my tax money is safe.

Not a good start in my opinion.

Anyone who has been paying any attention at all to Prop 8 knows that this will not be over any time soon. The legal battles will go on and on. I think part of the reason that the leftists are so afraid of this amendment is because they are the ones who fight every battle. This amendment protects conservatism, it protects tradition and that's why its scary.

Meridian magazine is a website that is maintained by members of my religion but not by the LDS church.

This article is a first person account of the rioting protests in Los Angelos by a member of my church who is also a Detective for the LAPD. Amazing how the tolerance is requested but not given. As well as the violation of civil rights and basic freedoms of my church is tolerated by officials (inlcuding that imbecile Arnold) on all levels of government in LA right now. At least their freedom of speech isn't being voilated...

Is this something to worry about?

I know that Proposition 8 in California is a very controversial topic. I personally believe in Prop 8. I also believe that it has gone way too far. I think that this would not have been such a big deal if there had not been the issues that existed in Massachusetts. The fact that people's freedom of how to teach and raise their kids were infringed upon really turned this into a big issue. Where people were scared of what might be forced upon them and their beliefs.
I believe that the family consists of a man, a woman, and children. I believe that the family is central to our happiness and is the basic unit of our wonderful country. When the family fails is when I think that our country will cease to be great.
We need to protect our country and all the rights that have been granted us by our founding fathers. They worked hard to provide us the freedoms that we have today. I do not believe that the constitution would have been possible if it were not for inspiration from God. The constitution is an inspired document based on faith and love.
I believe that we need to protect the family and the freedoms that this great nation was founded on. This nation was founded on religious beliefs and a profound trust in God. I strongly believe that everyone has the right to worship how, who, or what they may. I believe in equal rights and that people deserve to be happy. I know that a lot of people would say that my support for Prop 8 and my belief in equal rights are in conflict. I don't see it as a conflict because I believe that I am still protecting their rights in freedom of religion and to live as they choose.
California has very strict family laws that protect civil unions and grant them all the privileges given to married couples. These laws protect those that want to commit to each other whether straight or homosexual. In my opinion the term 'gay marriage' gives the air of a political stunt and drastically cheapens the meaning of their commitment. I would not be as comfortable supporting Prop 8 if it were not for the family laws that are already in place to protect those that truly love and are committed to each other.

I completely understand why there are very emotional responses on both sides of this issue. What I cannot understand is the violence that has happened. People demanding respect and "tolerance" are the first to take it away from others.

I was forwarded this email, and I've received it also a few years back. I was thinking about this cycle and why the Greeks failed in their democracy and then this was sent to me again. I agree that we as a people are definately complacent and even apathetic. We need to wake up and remember the great country in which we live, what made it great, and how to make it great again!

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great country.
Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare...."
Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegal's and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA.

Sometimes this comic is more true than we like to admit. Not just the recent presidential election but it happens all the time in business as well.

Sometimes its for good and sometimes for not so good. Nothing frustrates me more than when a CEO gets fired because he can't do the job and then he walks away with a 'severance' package worth more than some countries national yearly income.

Change is coming, its inevitable. It always comes. I don't agree with everything that Obama has said and I still don't know that I trust him but I will support him as my new president and I am interested to see what will happen. Why I Can't Vote For Obama

A few months ago I was asked for my perspective on Obama, I sent out an email with a few points. With the election just around the corner I decided to complete my perspective. Those of you on my e-list have seen some of this before but it's worth repeating..

First I must say whoever wins the election will have my prayer support. Obama needs to be commended for his accomplishments but I need to explain why I will not be voting for him.
Many of my friends process their identity through their blackness.
I process my identity through Christ. Being a Christian (a Christ follower) means He leads I follow. I can't dictate the terms He does because He is the leader.

I can't vote black because I am black, I have to vote Christian because that's who I am. Christian first, black second. Neither shoul d anyone from the other ethnic groups vote because of ethnicity. 200 years from now I won't be asked if I was black or white. I will be asked if I knew Jesus and accepted Him as Lord and Savior.

In an election there are many issues to consider but when a society gets abortion, same-sex marriage, embryonic stem-cell research, human cloning to name a few, wrong economic concerns will soon not matter.

We need to follow Martin Luther King's words, don't judge someone by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I don't know Obama so all I can go off is his voting record.

His voting record earned him the title of the most liberal senator in the US Senate in 2007.

To beat Ted Kennedy and Hilary Clinton as the most liberal senator, takes some doing.
Obama accomplished this feat in 2 short years. I wonder what would happen to America if he had four years to work with.
There is a reason planned parenthood gives him a 100 % rating.
There is a reason the homosexual community supports him.
There is a reason Ahmadinejad, Chavez, Castro, Hamas etc. love him.
There is a reason he said he would nominate liberal judges to the Supreme Court.
There is a reason he voted against the infanticide bill.
There is a reason he voted No on the constitutional ban of same-sex marriage.
There is a reason he voted No on banning partial birth abortion.
There is a reason he voted No on confirming Justices Roberts and Alito. These two judges are conservatives and they have since overturned partial birth abortion. The same practice Obama wanted to continue.
Lets take a look at the practice he wanted to continue.

The 5 Step Partial Birth Abortion procedure
A. Guided by ultrasound, the abortionist grabs the baby's leg with forceps.
(Remember this is a live baby)
B. The baby's leg is pulled out into the birth canal.
C. The abortionist delivers the baby's entire body, except for the head.
D. The abortionist jams scissors into the baby's skull. The scissors are then opened to enlarge the hole.
E. The scissors are removed and a suction catheter is inserted. The child's brains are sucked out, causing the skull to collapse. The dead baby is then removed.
God help him.

There is a reason Obama opposed the parental notification law.
Think about this: you can't give a kid an aspirin without parental notification but that same kid can have an abortion without parental notification. This is insane.

There is a reason he went to Jeremiah Wright's church for 20 years.
Obama tells us he has good judgment but he sat under Jeremiah Wright teaching for 20 years. Now he is condemning Wright's sermons. I wonder why now?

Obama said Jeremiah Wright led him to the Lord and discipled him. A disciple is one in training. Jesus told us in Matt hew 28:19 - 20 'Go and make disciples of all nations.' This means reproduce yourself. Teach people to think like you, walk like you, talk like you believe what you believe etc. The question I have is what did Jeremiah Wright teach him?

Would you support a White President who went to a church which has tenets that said they have a:
1. Commitment to the White Community
2. Commitment to the White Family
3. Adherence to the White Work Ethic
4. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the White Community .
5. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting White Institutions
6. Pledge allegiance to all White leadership who espouse and embrace the White Value System
7. Personal commitment to embracement of the White Value System.
Would you support a President who went to a church like that?
Just change the word from white to black and you have the tenets of Obama's former church. If President Bush was a member of a church like this, he would be called a racist. Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton would have been marching outside.

This kind of church is a racist church. Obama did not wake up after 20 years and just discovered he went to a racist church. The church can't be about race. Jesus did not come for any particular race. He came for the whole world.

A church can't have a value system based on race. The churches value system has to be based on biblical mandate. It does not matter if its a white church or a black church it's still wrong. Anyone from either race that attends a church like this would never get my vote.

Obama's former Pastor Jeremiah Wright is a disciple of liberal theologian James Cone, author of the 1970 book A Black Theology of Liberation. Cone once wrote: 'Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him.

Cone is the man Obama's mentor looks up to. Does Obama believe this?
So what does all this mean for the nation?

In the past when the Lord brought someone with the beliefs of Obama to lead a nation it meant one thing - judgment.

Read 1 Samuel 8 when Israel asked for a king.
First God says in 1 Samuel 1:9 'Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do.'
Then God says
1 Samuel 1:18 ' When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, and the LORD will not answer you in that day.' 19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel. 'No!' they said. 'We want a king over us. 20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.' 21 When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the LORD. 22 The LORD answered, 'Listen to them and give them a king.'

Here is what we know for sure.
God is not schizophrenic
He would not tell one person to vote for Obama and one to vote for McCain. As the scripture says, a city divided against itself cannot stand, so obviously many people are not hearing from God.
Maybe I am the one not hearing but I know God does not change and Obama contradicts many things I read in scripture so I doubt it.

For all my friends who are voting for Obama can you really look God in the face and say; Father based on your word, I am voting for Obama even though I know he will continue the genocidal practice of partial birth abortion. He might have to nominate three or four supreme court justices, and I am sure he will be nominating liberal judges who will be making laws that are against you. I also know he will continue to push for homosexual rights, even though you destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for this. I know I can look the other way because of the economy.

I could not see Jesus agreeing with many of Obama's positions. Finally I have two questions for all my liberal friends.
Since we know someone's value system has to be placed on the nation,
1. Whose value system should be placed on the nation.
2. Who should determine that this is the right value system for the nation?

LAWSUIT ASKS IF OBAMA IS LEGAL CANDIDATE

(Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania – 10/06/08) - Philip J. Berg, Esquire, the attorney who filed suit against Sen. Barack H. Obama challenging Obama's lack of "qualifications" to serve as president of the United States, announced today that Obama and Democratic National Committee (DNC) filed a joint motion for protective prder to stay discovery pending a decision on the motion to dismiss which was filed on Sept. 24.

While legal, Berg stated he is "outraged as this is another attempt to hide the truth from the public; it is obvious that documents do not exist to prove that Obama is qualified to be President." The case is Berg v. Obama, No. 08-cv-04083.

Their joint motion indicates a concerted effort to avoid the truth by attempting to delay the judicial process, although legal, by not resolving the issue presented: that is, whether Obama meets the qualifications to be president.

It is obvious that Obama was born in Kenya and does not meet the "qualifications" to be president of the United States pursuant to our United States Constitution. Obama cannot produce a certified copy of his "vault" (original long version) birth certificate from Hawaii because it does not exist.

Furthermore, and actually more important is Obama's certificate of citizenship that he received when he returned from Indonesia, as if it exists it would indicate that Obama was "naturalized" and also not able to be president.

The DNC has promised "we the people" an open and honest Government and has promised to uphold our United States Constitution. The DNC has failed their promise. DNC Chairperson Howard Dean should resign as he has not and is not fulfilling his responsibility of seeing that a "qualified" candidate is on the ballot as the Democratic candidate for president of the United States.

Berg stated that a response in opposition will be filed in the next day or so to the defendants motion for a protective order.

The web site obamacrimes.com now has 21.7 plus million hits. It is urging all to spread the word of the website – and forward to your local newspapers and radio and TV stations.

Berg again stressed his position regarding the urgency of this case as, "we" the people, are heading to a "Constitutional Crisis" if this case is not resolved forthwith.

It is a real lawsuit but sadly there is not much support to it. I have heard about it a few times but I can't recall where.
I do find it hard to swallow the fact that Obama's qualifications aren't really investigated with some of the things he has said and the fact that the media is obviously in love with him is very disturbing.
I hate picking the better of two evils. If a 'no confidence' vote would actually mean anything then I would go that route, but sadly it's almost just throwing your vote away.

When i first heard Obama speak I was very interested in him. He has an
amazing charisma and speaking ability (at least rehearsed). I was like,
if this guy is even half as good as he sounds he'll be amazing. I have
researched his policies (at least what he has outright said) and
listened to what he has said, and even even more to what he has not
said. He outright scares me as to what he is going to attempt to do as
the leader of the US.

I am appalled at the love affair that the media has with him and what they are willing to do/hide/say to support him.

Here is just one example, the LA times is suppressing a video that
allegedly has him toasting a known terrorist. This scares me that these
are the people he cohorts with.

This election scares me. I am not particularly excited about any of the candidates but Obama's policies scare me more. (Really sad that our choice comes down to picking the best of the worst.) I am really scared that people are going to vote on looks and not pay attention to what the policies are. I haven't posted on here in over a year. So many things have happened but there is no way to get caught up so I'll just start again (and hopefully be better at it - for the whole 2 -maybe- that read it).
At church, since my wife is the children's chorister, I get to have my youngest with me for all my meetings. Today during Sunday School, since he will not sit still anymore, we walked around the building - well I followed wherever he decided that he wanted to go. Right before Priesthood we went into the gym and I had a little ball in my pocket so I put it down and kicked it to him. He was so excited that he chased it down and then kicked it himself. He then proceeded to be a little soccer player and would kick and chase it for a few times then pick it up and throw it and chase it down again for another round of kicking.
Bedtime has gone through many ups and downs since our schedule has been quite crazy but tonight we said family prayer when son#2 went to bed and then we had a little bit of time before son#1 went down. After we brushed his teeth and were heading into bed, he climbed into bed and looked at me and said "Daddy, I wanna say prayer so snakes don't get me in my bed." So we kneeled down and I asked him to say it.
"Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you. Please bless me to be safe. Please bless me to be brave. In name Jesus Christ, Amen."
We have said prayers before to be brave and safe and to help him sleep but it is usually me coaching him. But every now and then he just comes off with these perfect prayers and has the faith that Heavenly Father and Jesus will keep him safe.
I love the faith of a child and now completely understand why we need to become as a child and have the faith, love, and complete trust. I am so grateful for the blessings of the gospel in my life. It brings such a comfort as a father to know what I need to teach my boys and that I'm not alone but can turn to God with anything that I need help on. Spiritual Experience

I don't know if there are people that read this blog that don't know me. (Probably not since I haven't blogged in quite a while.) But I am a member of the Mormon Church. I don't normally blog about spiritual experience but my good friend Brian recently posted about how he was thankful for the Holy Ghost. And it got me remembering a very special experience for me.

For those that don't know, we just had son # 2 born to us 2 weeks ago today. He is doing great! My wife had a c-section with our first and was really hoping to have a VBAC. She was doing everything that she could to 'encourage' #2 to be born naturally but nothing seemed to be working. 2 weeks ago she went into the Dr. for her weekly check up and her blood pressure was high. The Dr. was concerned because she had a history of C-section and worried for her and the baby and suggested a c-section the next day. My wife was so distraught and I was working in SLC and couldn't get away to be with her. We decided that we would pray about it and talk on my lunch break. Unfortunately, I was so concerned for her I had a hard time concentrating and even getting a clear head to pray, but I did pray to help us know. I called my wife later to talk to her. It was amazing at how Heavenly Father loves us so much that he answers prayers so quickly and clearly. The only time my wife was able to be calmed (and stop crying) was when she decided to have the C-section the next day.

Well, the next day at the hospital her blood pressure was fine again but we still felt that we should go through with the surgery. As you know, we had Sam and things went ok. But there was one point in the delivery that we got on tape that really affirmed to us that God watches over us. As they were trying to pull #2 out through the incision they had a hard time. The umbilical cord was wrapped so tightly around his throat that they couldn't even pull him out without first unwrapping it. It was so tight that they basically had to roll it over his head.

It was through that Holy Ghost that we knew what God wanted us to do to save my son's life. I have no doubt about it. Even now i feel the calming spirit as I think about it and have to thank my Father in Heaven and my Savior for loving us and protecting us from what could have been a really ugly delivery with an emergency C-section that could have possibly resulted in the death of my son.

God lives and he loves us, no doubt about it. I thank Him for now both Mom and Baby are doing fine! I am thankful for the Holy Ghost and for his part in relaying Heavenly Father's will and providing comfort to us when we desperately needed it.

Teach Real life in High School

A few of us at work have discussed this topic a few times and how we really aren't that that prepared for life when we graduate high school. College helps a little bit more but I think people really learn about the difficult things the hard way. Brian Kim has a website where he talks about different things to make yourself better. He has this one article that talks about what classes they should really teach or should be mandatory learning in high school. I agree with him, I think that these classes would really help but I also wonder if kids will really understand/take to heart the things that they need to learn from these classes. Maybe we let them live on their own for about 6 months and then try and teach em... i don't know. ideas?

I still don't have internet at home and its hard to be able to blog at work. I'm hoping to get internet soon but we'll see. I am really enjoying my new job. I get to go to Canada to train next week and I am stoked about that. My wife and my son are going to visit my family while I'm away. I'm really sad that my family lives so far away and we don't get to see them that often. More than me not being able to see them I feel bad that my son doesn't get to know his grandparents that much. I worried about that before we had kids. I'm closer to my mom's parents than I am to my dad's. I really want my kids to know and love to visit my parents too, so I'm glad that they get to go spend time with my family even though I won't be there. I'm still here, still alive, still kicking - for anyone that might be following this... don't know who but you never know.

I'm sorry I haven't posted this sooner but its been a crazy 2 weeks. This is him! This is my oldest son. This picture was taken a few days ago so he was about a week and a half old at this point. He was born Feb 13th at 7:45pm. Came via c-section cause he was 9 lbs 15 oz and didn't want to come the "normal" way. He is the most perfect, adorably baby ever. I'll try and post more pictures later.

Gas prices creeping back up.

I have enjoyed (weird to say that about $1.90 a gallon) the cheaper gas prices. I have been bummed that they have been creeping back up. I found an article about changing cars over to using ethanol as a gasoline substituted. The problem is in order for the country to switch would be for us (the consumers) to demand it, as we all know money talks.
I think it would be great to move to a power source that would be less harmful on the environment, be cheaper to buy, etc... I think one of the best reasons to move towards this is that it would help make our country more self reliant. We would be an independently strong nation. If anyone has any good ideas on how to make this a stronger possibility, or on how to make it known to the "powers that be" that we want this let me know and help me spread the news.

I have been a NM resident for the passed 10 years, I have relished in the fact that I am not a UT resident. As of next week my NM driver's license expires and since I don't make it to NM that often anymore and since my son is going to be born in UT it made sense to get a UT one. Well today was the long dreaded day. Went to the DMV as early as possible to avoid a long wait. We got there and there were only 4 people ahead of me so I was excited.
"In and out" we thought but no. Today of all days the computer system there had to go down and they had to do everything manually. I realized that if the DMV was a retail business and not a goverment sanctioned and even required process no one would ever shop there. It has to be the worst and most ineffective place in the world (not counting government work).
It took almost an hour to get thru 4 people, get me up there and give me the written test (yes, you have to take the written test again in UT if you are getting your license for the first time), less than ten minutes to take the test and then another 20 or so for them to grade it, take my picture and tell me they will mail me my license in 2 weeks and give me a temporary one for the mean time.
I don't get it, you think with as many people that they have to process daily they would have a much better system of getting people thru the process. Every one has DMV horror stories... why do we put up with it? Why don't we demand a better way? Probably cause it takes so long to get thru it noone wants to spend their life trying to get something changed in a government process.
On another note, why is it always old grumpy people that work there? Like how many licks it takes to get to the tootsie roll center of a lollipop... no one will ever know.

Sitting here thinking, wondering. Where does time really go? Some days it seems to fly by and other times it drags on so slow you wonder how you're going to survive. The last couple of days I've just sat here wondering, how can it be 2006 already? I feel like I accomplished a lot in 2005 but theres always more to do.
With all that 2005 brought it makes you wonder what else is out there. What is in store for me? What opportunities will I have this year that I didn't have last year?
I know that 2006 will be a very interesting year for me because my first son will be born shortly. Its hard to believe that I will be a dad. I will be responsible for another life. I will be responsible to raise my son and teach him all that he will need to survive in the world. I'll have to teach him right from wrong. How to make good decisions, how to deal with heartache, and how to learn from mistakes...
I am really glad that I found a woman for my wife and mother of my children, that I know will be a good example for them. I am glad for parents that taught me well and have shown me a good example. I am grateful for my religion and my faith in Jesus Christ. I have so much that I have been blessed with, even to the point that I don't feel worthy of it.
I look forward to the New Year and the new challenges cause I know I want them and I will grow from them. Bring on 2006!!

Product review...

I never thought that I would do a product review because I never really thought that it was necessary. But recently I started using a product that I think needs no push from me but I want to give it still. I used to make fun of my roommate for using his "sonicare" toothbrush. I used to think that it was just a cheezy tool that was overpriced and over-hyped.
For a christmas present (on recommendation from my dentist) I bought one for my wife and myself. Its only been one week since we started using them but we are sold. My wife said to me yesterday "i think we may be sonicare people for life" and continually raves about how she feels "just home from the dentist clean."
It doesn't take much pressure, none actually, and it keeps your teeth nice and clean. They are a little bit expensive but they are definately worth it for the cleanliness it provides. Try and enjoy!

So I was reading my friend Brian's blog and I decided to check FLICKR out. I uploaded a few photos and was just having fun with the settings and what not. I came upon a what they call the "flickr badge". I don't know coding that well but I am learning how to manipulate some code a little bit. I had my friend Tristan help me so I wouldn't totally screw it up but I was able to create my own Flickr badge. You can go to flickr and look at my pictures. I am just on the free account so I don't have a lot up there yet but its fun to do new things.

Standing up for what you believe in...

There are many times and places to stand up for what you believe. I got this "Paul Harvey quote" forwarded to me in an email and I wanted to put it up here for all to read. (I later found on snopes.com that its not Paul Harvey but Nick Gholson but its still a great piece).

There are few things in life that will actually take your breath away. One of those was seeing my beautiful wife on our wedding day. Another happened just last week. I have known for over 10 weeks that we are going to have a baby but nothing prepares you for the first time you see your future child. I stood there holding my wife's hand as the ultrastonagrapher waved a wand over her, not so big yet, belly and low and behold this. I still get chills now just thinking about it. It is still very surreal to think that there is a small child developing inside my wonderful wife but I got my first glimpse, my first peak, into my future. The whole process is just a miracle. Thank you God for this!

Truck explodes damaging HWY

I don't know if anyone has gone thru Spanish Fork canyon, Utah hwy 6, but i use it everytime I go home to New Mexico. Or if anyone has gone to Lake Powell from nothern Utah its the same road. Well this semi had some issues and ended up blowing a crater in the road. They say it'll only close the road for 6-8 hrs but come on, this is a 35 ft deep crater possible 60-80 ft wide. No fatalities, maybe minor injuries. Bet that driver will be more careful on mountain curves from now on.
UPDATE: (8/17/05) I never would have believed that a hole this big could be fixed so fast, but less than 2 days after this explosion the highway was fixed and open for use.

I have been waiting and waiting to post this blog for quite some time. I have been able to reach most the people that I wanted/needed to tell in person. For those that I haven't been able to reach I am sorry, thats what ya get for not answering your phone. A little over a month and a half ago, June 3rd to be precise I was woken up by my beautiful wife to tell me something wonderful. The test was positive! Yes, that is exactly what you think it is. My wife is pregnant with our first. Since she is only 12 weeks along we don't know what the sex of the baby will be yet but should be able to find out around the time of our anniversary in September. So as scary as it is I will be a daddy in February. This will definately be a topic for many times to come but I wanted to announce it for all the world to know. I'M GONNA BE A DADDY!!!!

Well, for those that can tell we got internet again and so I'll have time to blog again. Here was one of the interesting stories that I could not help but blog. There are many ways to lose weight and here's another. Some people can only talk but this man can walk the walk. I wish him the best on his way to finding himself, physically, emotionally, and mentally. I have to warn him not to lose too much weight, because (as me and my boss like to quote) "Fat people are hard to kidnap!"

I have often felt that people treat me different when I have a goatee as opposed to when I don't. I have often felt that this was just because my self confidence was higher with the goatee. My favorite is when i grew facial hair like a redneck, I'll have to post that picture later. My friend Brian decided to put this to a test. Check out his findings here. Freeze your credit...

While it may not be the best or most effective way, it is the first step in giving more power to us as consumers over our credit. 'Freezing' your credit will give you power to control who grants "you" credit. I agree that waiting a few days to qualify for credit will be a pain, but who knows it could be a good thing. On second thought, I think i have the answer to all this. How about we go away from credit. No more credit cards. You wanna buy something you have to pay cash for it. Or how about only allowing one credit card per person that you have to go to the government to get. How about that? Then the government could use the interest it charges on Credit cards to cut back on taxes. They could use it to get rid of the national debt. Then they can restrict everything we buy, so we are only allowed so many of a certain item. Sounds alot like communism to me. Why don't we just allow capital punishment for identity theft? Right now there really isn't any punishment for it, so its just becoming more widespread. Lets just make it a capital punishment crime and see how far the rate of identity theft decreases... Ok maybe i'm being a little facetious but come on, its getting ridiculous. We have to have more control over our own credit, that has to be the answer.

MSN screwed up and didn't put the article in the right place, but thats not the reason for this blog. While many purport that Macs are virtually hacker free, sadly this is not true... "Report: Hacker attacks on Mac rising". (you have to scroll way down to read it) So even you Mac users need to be careful. So its not the type of computer you have its the size of the market that that type of computer holds. So all you Mac lovers... take that! LOL!
**disclaimer - I really like certain things about macs and have really considered getting one but as always the quest for knowledge reveals little things that people would like hidden**

When I first was told about my wife's famliy (then my girlfriend) I was intrigued to learn that her younger siblings that were adopted were unable to speak but used sign language mainly to communicate. Since they, 2 of the kids, have downsyndrome their signs are easy to learn and fun to use with them. I was intrigued and began thinking about teaching my own kids sign language to be able to communicate with their family (as the youngest brother is deaf) but also to broaden and expand their minds. Those thoughts were rekindled and strengthened with this article I found. It seems teaching sign language to a child saved this woman's life. I am confident that my wife and I will teach our children sign language and am looking forward to it.

Hosting a murder...

My sister-in-laws birthday was last week and unfortunately we were out of town and unable to do anything with/for her. For atleast a year Becca (the sister in law) has been trying to throw my wife a How to Host a Murder party, this game is rather fun, but time consuming and harder to pull off then they make it seem. We decided to throw her a surprise murder party. The basis of the game is you put 8 people in a room, give them characters and a character guide book and tell them one of them murdered their host. Basically Clue acted out at a dinner party. We pulled out all the stops, got a friend to let us use their "summer home" up in Park City, got a good friend to ask Becca out on a date, got all her best friends in on it, and even dressed in black and acted as the servants. Two weeks in planning all came to an end last night, and it was well worth it. She was surprised beyond belief and when we shuffled her into the other room to get into her costume she had a hard time not jumping up and down in excitement and her mouth open in shock. The dinner was huge with all the courses, I'm glad I married an excellent cook. I'd recommend it to anyone, as long as you get all the people that will get into character and have fun with it. Try your own How to Host a Murder party anytime.

Billary in 2008? I hope not...

With President Bush's reelection it leaves the thought out there: Who in 2008? I have a friend who normally votes democratic but this year voted for Bush, why? Not because she thought he was the better choice necessarily but because she wants Hillary Clinton as president in 2008. I am not a sexist and don't think that a woman would do a good job as a president but Billary in the white house again? Heaven help us. I believe that women make great leaders and can see different sides to a topic or event than men can, but I don't believe that that first woman president slot should be occupied by Hillary. Her husband has done enough damage to the country and the world in his two terms, can we stand to have him as "first lady" and helping his wife during her terms? I'm not a strong politicaly minded man, I believe in the founding fathers and their dream for our country, it was them that paved the way for this country to be as great as it is. My hopes and wishes are that we strive to elect leaders for our country that actually care about the job they do and not just about writing a book when they are done. My request to the country: hold true to the values and the designs that our great nation was founded on; "one nation under God" there is no comma there and nor should there be. With God all is possible, without him all is futile.

Fishing vs phishing

Those who know me, know that I have a passion for fly fishing. Its a great way to get out and enjoy the outdoors, relieve some stress, and have some good ol' fashioned fun.
Recently there has been a new type of "fishing" that has surfaced. While it shares the same name it has nothing to do with the sport I love, it is called Phishing. I have received a few emails that are of the phishing type and want to warn others. Phishing is usually an email or pop up and looks innocent enough. It can appear to come from your bank, credit card companies, or similar institutions; even Ebay.
They have all the look and design of an email that you would get from your bank, some even stating that they are trying to stop phishing and tell you to log in on their page to learn details and provide a link. Don't be fooled, it ISN'T your bank. A good thing to do is to hold your mouse over the link and see where it points. Sadly some programmers are even getting good enough that they can show your banks web address even on the mouse over.

Steps to avoid being caught in the PHISHING net:
1. Never click on the link in these emails - your bank will never send an email telling you to "click here", but will tell you to go to their site and log in. Always go to the website and log in there.
2. Report even suspected incidents to places like: http://www.antiphishing.org/ and also to that institution, include as much information as you can.
3. The Federal Trade Commission is also a great place to look and complain.
4. Keep your anti-virus software up to date.
5. Don't send any personal information via email and also be cautious about attachments you receive.

Here is a good test to test your knowledge on phishing. Also do a search on Google on phishing, you'd be surprised what comes up.

Its sad that a sport with such a peaceful and sportsman reputation shares a name with this attrocious and pitiful crime.

I have been in customer service for most of my working life. And there are always your irate customers. Noone likes being an irate customer, they just want to get what they paid for or not be taken advantage of. I'm like the next man and when someone tries to take advantage of me I make sure they know I'm not the type to put up with that. I have worked in a call center for the last 4+ years, and have dealt with many different people. I have derived my own strategy on how to deal with getting my problem solved. I was reading online the other day and I found this article. How to complain effectively, some great advice. I am much more willing to help someone that is nice than trying to help someone that is rude and harassing me, but you have to be stubborn and make sure the issue gets resolved. Some great tips I just wanted to share.

How to be Romantic... maybe not.

I was listening to the radio last night and I heard an ad telling men how to be romantic and "nothing says romance like taking your significant other to OutBack Steak House". Well I'm like most guys, I like a good steak every now and then, but my wife isn't the biggest meat eater. She makes the comment "shouldn't they be focusing that towards the girls to take their man?" She's right, on the average a steak house is more of a man's place than a woman's. (I'm not saying women don't eat steak but on average its true.) I responded to her by saying that valentine's day was more of a woman's holiday than a man's. But then I got to thinking, its very sad that OutBack thinks that men are that non-romantic that they can tell them to take their wives/gf's to a steak house. Granted its a nice resturaunt but it just goes to show the general thoughts of men and their being romantic. Granted men in general are stupid when it comes to relationships, we aren't the most focused on our feelings and on romance but guys can do the job when they really try. Come on OutBack give us a break believe in your customers and stop perpetuating these stereo types; Tell our wive's and GF's to take us to OutBack as a Thank You for a great Valentine's!

I know everyong feels like they never win anything. I am one of those people. I have been debating whether or not to start a blog and decided to give it a try if nothing else and today just happened to be a GREAT day. I came to work expecting the same ol' same ol' hum drum. We had this orientation thing at work where if you go you get free ice cream, no brainer I went. We filled out a card for a drawing later on in the day, nother no brainer (free stuff? of course!). Well i get back from lunch to co-workers telling me that I just won. Well I only half believed em, but then I get a call saying "you won come pick up your free digital camera." SWEET! So i go to pick it up thinking its a cheezy cheap one, but no its a 6.3 megapixel camera (gotta give props). So when I get back from my desk I have an internal mail folder sitting on my desk, "thank you for your suggestion, heres 100$ to any Marriott Hotel."
Yeah, I know that I never win anything but I'm on cloud nine today cause I finally figured out how it feels to win. What a way to start off the blogging journey. Watch out world, I'm a winner and here I come! (ok cheezy comment i know but I just couldn't help myself.)
